Certified Funeral Celebrant Legacy Matters –
Your Life , Your Story

A Certified Celebrant is a person who has been trained and certified through InSight to meet the needs of families during their time of loss to honor the life of their loved one.

How does a Funeral Celebrant work with the family?

A Funeral Celebrant serves by creating a story that can be a stand alone or with a eulogy that is a 7-10 minutes long that encompasses the life of the person. It is often created by using a traditional obituary as the basis.

How is the “Their Life , Their Story” created?

The Celebrant will have a family time for sharing of stories, favorites, and memories of their loved one. The Celebrant will speak with anyone the family chooses to add to their life story. The Celebrant writes a 7 to 10-minute non-religious eulogy or writing about the loved to include the stories, favorites, and memories from the family sharing time. The family will approve it ahead of the funeral or memorial service.

How is it different from a traditional Funeral Director, Clergy or Family Member?

The Celebrant has the ability to focus on one family at a time and is trained specifically to offer a wide library of resources for readings, music, poems, traditions and best practices from other special ceremonies to create with the family a service that honors the life of the loved one. Typically, non-religious in nature telling “their life , their story”.

Who reads their story at the Celebration of Life or Memorial Service?

The family will decide if the Celebrant will attend and participate by reading it. Another family member is sometimes identified. In the event the family will have a Clergy member in attendance they can include it as well. The Celebrants writing can also be tailored and used as a part of the obituary.
